WELCOME: Welcome to our new students and families and welcome back to our returning students and families! We are so glad you're all here!

Choral Ensembles

OFF TO A GREAT START! Each ensemble has been discussing and implementing our CHOR-AL values: Communicate, Honor, Open, Rehearse, Adjust, Listen. Students have the WMHS Choral Handbook as a resource for our Choral Ensembles. This document includes the calendar for the year, so please be sure to put important performance dates on your calendar! Ensembles are working on developing tone, learning about the vocal mechanism, listening to each other, singing accurate solfege patterns, and beginning to work on December concert repertoire and this year’s senior district audition piece: April is in My Mistress’ Face, by Thomas Morley.

RED SOX! Over the summer, for the second year in a row, the entire WMHS Choral Department had an amazing time at Fenway, performing the National Anthem for the Red Sox v. Giants game on August 23. Thanks to all the families and friends who supported us from the stands!

A Cappella Groups

The a cappella groups are looking forward to a great year! Voices of Steel has already put in almost 30 hours of rehearsal, including meeting during the summer for our third year of summer boot camp! They performed a heartfelt version of “Here Comes the Sun” for the entire WPS faculty and staff at the Opening Day meeting. We have a brand NEW a cappella group this year, newly dubbed Ascension, and led by Nadia Collins. Mic Drop is also off to a great start, with over twenty-five students showing up for the first two rehearsals. With almost 60 students across three groups, the a cappella program is bigger than ever!

Make sure to follow our social media for gig announcements! Our first big performance will be the 5th Annual A Cappella Fall Fest on November 7, hosted with our friends from North Reading, including groups from Belmont, Wilmington, Andover, and more!

Student Perspective

Please enjoy this note from one of our students, sophomore EJ Savage!

Hi, my name is EJ Savage, and I am a sophomore in the Music Department! I am involved in many aspects of the department, including managing Voices of Steel, performing with the Marching Band, participating in theater arts, and serving as a production manager for Chamber Singers. The year is now in full swing, and we have moved past the icebreaker phase and are now learning our repertoire!

Our choral groups have been working on tone quality, sight-reading, balancing parts, solfege patterns, and this year’s senior district audition piece: "April Is in My Mistress' Face" by Thomas Morley. We have already started preparing our winter concert pieces, which we cannot wait to show you on Wednesday, December 9th!

All three of our a cappella groups (Yes, you heard that right) are ready for their performance at the 5th annual Fall Fest on Saturday, November 7th! We can't wait for you to hear our new music and the debut of our newest group, Ascension! All of our groups have been working very hard, and I can't wait to see what they can do this year!

Stay connected!
