Choral Ensembles

END OF TERM 1: It’s been a great fall of music making! The term ends on Friday, November 6. Students should be checking Google Classroom and PowerSchool to make sure all assignments are up to date. Term 1 grades will be published in PowerSchool on Tuesday, November 17.

CONCERT DATES: Please make sure you have the Winter Concert and Dress Rehearsal on your calendars!

Winter Concert: Wed, Dec 9, 2026, 7 PM, call time 6 PM; Dress Rehearsal: Mon, Dec 7, 2026, 5:30-6:30 PM

CONCERT ATTIRE: Now is a great time to start thinking about concert attire! For Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Treble Choir, concert attire is a black dress shirt, black dress pants OR ankle length skirt, black dress shoes, black socks. The following are NOT allowed on stage: t-shirts, polo shirts, black jeans, sneakers, white socks, and bare legs. All groups should have their concert attire ready for the Winter Concert on December 9.

A Cappella Groups

We are gearing up for the fifth annual A Cappella Fall Fest, Saturday, November 7, 7 PM, at the GMS Auditorium. Tickets are $20/$10 at the door, and groups from North Reading, Andover, Belmont, Marblehead, Marlborough, and Salem will be joining us! It’s going to be a great night of music! This will also be the DEBUT of our newest a cappella group, ASCENSION!! You don’t want to miss it!

Looking ahead, Voices of Steel was accepted into the Varsity Vocals ICHSA Competition!! Currently, they are working on competition set music and music for December gigs. Students sing holiday and pop songs around the community! Follow them on social media to see where their next performance will be!

Exciting Notes

Along with alumni singers dating back to the Class of 2010, both Chamber Singers and Treble Choir were thrilled to support the Warrior Marching Band by performing the National Anthem at the NESBA Marching Band Show last Saturday night.

Our annual Tri-M Induction took place last week. We inducted twenty-nine new members including sixteen students from the Choral Department. We were thrilled to welcome Ms. Sheri Prosperi as our guest speaker, and to induct our newest Honorary Member, Ms. Kathy Lopez.

Student Perspective

Please enjoy this note from one of our students, junior Ruby Thomas!

Hello fellow musicians and families! I’m Ruby Thomas, an active member in Treble Choir and Marching band, as well as a choreographer and member of Voices of Steel. I practically live in the music hallway during and after school hours, but when I’m not there you can find me making art, reading, or playing card games. But enough about me! I’m sure you’ve all heard whispers about NESBA Wakefield and other events, so I’ll let you in on what’s been happening this month in the Choral department.

October has held a multitude of opportunities and events for the whole music department. I was recently on the Marching Band’s trip to Delaware, where we competed in Bands of America. The trip was filled with valuable rehearsal time, but also plenty of time to make memories. From the Lego store at the Cherry Hill Mall, to movie and game night at the hotel, to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe, to Lost Boys on Broadway, the trip cemented the idea that we’ve all had: the music department truly is a family. We are all lucky to be provided the opportunities that we have here at Wakefield.

The Treble Choir and Chamber singers were also given the chance to sing at NESBA Wakefield, an annual tradition that we were all excited to continue. There’s nothing like ending a run, and then sprinting over to the horde of singers so I can sing the National anthem with a few select alumni that keep coming back, even when others refuse to crawl out of the stands. I know that seems to have a hint of sarcasm, but I mean it with full sincerity. I truly enjoy being able to perform as much as I can. And if winning a platinum medal at the competition wasn’t electrifying, the home show apple crisp provided by the wonderful band parents is reward enough for me. They’re really the ones keeping everything running!

And October isn’t where the events end, there are many exciting prospects in November. From A Cappella Night, to the annual leaf raking fundraiser, to senior district auditions, to the opening night of Into The Woods, there never seems to be a break for these musicians! A unique element of the music department is the versatility of all of the members. You’re not just a band kid, not just a singer, you’re able to excel where you are called to excel. Our directors and leaders are hard at work behind the scenes making sure that each student has the ability to do everything they want to do.

Oh my jingle bells! I can't forget about the most magical event of all; the Jolly Jingle Express! Auditions have just been held, so be ready for December to be filled with holiday cheer. See you all in the following months!
