MEET THE DIRECTOR

Since 2009, Ana Morel has served as the Choral Director at Wakefield Memorial High School in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where she leads the Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, Chorale, and the a cappella pop groups Voices of Steel and Mic Drop. In addition to her choral work, she is the Music Director for the Theater Arts program, Co-Advisor to the WMHS Tri-M Chapter #7433, and teaches music theory and electronic composition. Ms. Morel holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College.

Ms. Morel is an active performer, singing with the BSO's Tanglewood Festival Chorus at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood for twenty years. She has also served the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) in various roles, including Secretary and Senior Festival Coordinator on the Northeaster District Executive Board for the Northeastern District, and Concert Coordinator, Choral Manager, and Assistant Housing Manager for the MMEA All-State Festival.

Ms. Morel has served as a guest conductor, clinician, choral manager, festival coordinator, performer, and adjudicator across Massachusetts, Louisiana, and New York. She has led festival choruses at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels, and previously held positions as the Conductor of the Wakefield Choral Society and Choral Director for the Norwood Public Schools. Ms. Morel has also been on staff with the Boston Children’s Chorus and the Ithaca Children’s Choir. Additionally, she is an accomplished a cappella arranger with numerous works available through ArrangeMe & SheetMusicPlus.

At Ithaca College, Ms. Morel was the graduate assistant for the Ithaca College Choral Program, working with Dr. Janet Galván and Mr. Lawrence Doebler, and served as a mentor teacher in the teacher education program. She holds Level III Kodály Certification from the New England Conservatory and has completed two levels of the Choral Music Experience program at Ithaca College. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American Choral Directors Association.

Originally from the Finger Lakes region of Central New York, Ms. Morel has lived in the Boston area since 2003. Outside of music, she enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with her husband Michael Morel (Band Director at the Galvin Middle School), their three energetic children, and their poodle-mix dog.
