WMHS Choral Update - September 2025

WELCOME: Welcome to our new students and families and welcome back to our returning students and families!

Choral Ensembles

GO RED SOX! The entire WMHS Choral Department had an amazing time at Fenway, performing the National Anthem for the Red Sox v. Athletics game on September 18th. We also enjoyed a tour of both MGM Music Hall and the House of Blues, and we rehearsed on the floor of MGM. Thanks to all the families and friends who supported us from the stands!

OFF TO A GREAT START! Each ensemble has been discussing and implementing our CHOR-AL values: Communicate, Honor, Open, Rehearse, Adjust, Listen. Students were given the WHS Choral Handbook as a resource for our Choral Ensembles. This document includes the calendar for the year, so please be sure to put important performance dates on your calendar! Ensembles are working on developing tone, learning about the vocal mechanism, listening to each other, singing accurate solfege patterns, and focusing on December concert repertoire and this year’s senior district audition piece: Oh, How Can I Keep from Singing, by Robert A. Harris.

A Cappella Groups

Both groups are looking forward to a great year! Voices of Steel has already put in almost 30 hours of rehearsal, including meeting during the summer for our second year of summer boot camp! They performed a beautiful version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” for the entire WPS faculty and staff at the Opening Day meeting in August. Mic Drop is also off to a great start, with over thirty students showing up for the first two rehearsals.

Make sure to follow our social media for gig announcements! Our first big performance will be the 4th Annual A Cappella Fall Fest on November 1, hosted with our friends from North Reading, including groups from Belmont, Wilmington, Salem, Saugus, and more!
