WMHS Choral Update - October 2025

Choral Ensembles

END OF TERM 1: It’s been a great fall of music making! The term ends on Friday, November 7. Students should be checking Google Classroom and PowerSchool to make sure all assignments are up to date. Term 1 grades will be published in PowerSchool on Wednesday, November 19.

CONCERT DATES: Please make sure you have the Winter Concert and Dress Rehearsal on your calendars!

Winter Concert: December 9, 2025, 7 PM, call time 6 PM; Dress Rehearsal: December 8, 2025, 5:30-6:30 PM

CONCERT ATTIRE: Now is a great time to start thinking about concert attire! For Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Treble Choir, concert attire is a black dress shirt, black dress pants OR ankle length skirt, black dress shoes, black socks. The following are NOT allowed on stage: t-shirts, polo shirts, black jeans, sneakers, white socks, and bare legs. All groups should have their concert attire ready for the Winter Concert on December 9.

A Cappella Groups

Voices of Steel and Mic Drop are gearing up for the fourth annual A Cappella Fall Fest, (TOMORROW) Saturday, November 1, 7 PM, at the GMS Auditorium. Tickets are $20/$10 at the door, and groups from North Reading, Belmont, Saugus, Salem, Wilmington, and Marlborough will be joining us! It’s going to be a great night of music! Looking forward to the competition season, Voices of Steel recorded and submitted their application video for the Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella. Results will be posted in mid-November. Currently, they are working on competition set music and music for December gigs. Students sing holiday and pop songs around the community! Follow them on social media to see where their next performance will be!

Exciting Notes

Along with alumni singers dating back to the Class of 2010, both Chamber Singers and Treble Choir were thrilled to support the Warrior Marching Band by performing the National Anthem at the NESBA Marching Band Show on October 18.

Our annual Tri-M Induction took place on October 22. We inducted twenty-three new members including nine students from the Choral Department. These students sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the ceremony.

Student Perspective  Please enjoy this note from one of our students!!

Hi, my name is Max Levine, and I’m one of two section leaders of the Chamber Singers Bass Section at Wakefield Memorial High School! I am a sophomore, and I’m excited to finally be able to contribute to such an outstanding music program for another 3 years. Last year I had a blast, and I’m confident more fun will come. The choral department started off with a bang by singing our national anthem at a Red Sox game in mid-September. It was televised, and over 37,000 people saw us from their seats at Fenway. Talking about big achievements, our very own Wakefield Marching Band has been unstoppable, not only performing parts of their show during halftime at football home games, but also crushing all the competitions they’ve attended. Currently, their highest score stands at a 92.43, which they received at our very own high school when we hosted NESBA, or the New England Scholastic Band Association competition. They won all the possible awards they could, including ones for their music and visuals. This season, Chamber Singers received some pieces I think we are all very excited for, especially Time, composed by Jennifer Lucy Cook. Throughout the past couple weeks since we have started up, I am confident we will sound amazing by the time MICAA and concerts roll around. I have seen some massive improvements from everyone, new and returning members!
