Choral Ensembles

MICCA! Both Chamber Singers and Treble Choir will attend the Massachusetts Instrument & Choral Concert Association festival adjudication this Friday, April 4. The groups have been working very hard on high level literature. Chamber Singers performs at 6:50 PM and Treble Choir performs at 8:10 PM, both at North Andover High School. There is a fee to attend the festival. Thank you to everyone who supported these musicians at our MICCA Preview Concert on March 20th. Wish them luck at their adjudication!

CHORAL NIGHT! Mark your calendars for our Annual Choral Night Concert - May 21, 2025! This year, our Choral Night will feature 170 singers from 8th through 12th grade, with performances by the GMS 8th Grade Chorus and all the vocal groups in the WMHS Choral Department! As we look ahead to Term 4, we also start to plan for end of the year performances, such as the in-school WMHS Memorial Day Ceremony and WMHS Graduation.

ALL STATE CHORUS! Hailey Allocco, Samantha Bordonaro, and Jhalak Patel recently represented our department at the Massachusetts All-State Festival. They spent Friday, March 28 in Worcester, rehearsing a challenging and rewarding program, then performed at the beautiful Symphony Hall on Saturday, March 29. The conductor this year was Dr. Julie Yu, Director of Choral Activities at Oklahoma City University. Congratulations to Hailey, Sam, and Jhalak!!

A Cappella Groups

SEMIFINALS! On March 16, Voices of Steel had an incredible day at Mechanics Hall performing with the top groups in the Northeast Region, at the ICHSA Semifinal. They worked so hard on their competition set this year and it was a huge honor to make it to semifinals!

VOS! On March 19, Voices of Steel had the 4th graders rocking Serena Loh’s arrangement of Symphony by Zara Larsson, at one of their favorite concerts of the year, the All-Town 4th Grade Choral Concert. They are working hard on new songs for their two major events in April, VPAD and Spring A Cappella Night!

A CAPPELLA NIGHT! Both Mic Drop and Voices of Steel will perform in our Spring A Cappella Night that will feature the headliner Backtrack, with special guests, GMS Chamber Chorus! Friday, April 11, 2025, 7:00 PM!!!

Student Perspective

Hello, my name is Lizzie Police, a senior at Wakefield Memorial High School, and I’ve been in the music department my entire high school career! This is my third year in Voices of Steel, my first year in Tri-M, and I am the co-president of the Theatre Department along with being the Production Manager of Treble Choir. To start off, Voices of Steel has had an incredible month. We made it to the ICHSA Semi-Finals in Worcester and had an amazing time competing alongside nine other spectacular groups! It was a great experience and we all had so much fun. Shortly after, Voices of Steel performed at the 4th Grade Concert alongside all of the 4th Graders who attend Wakefield Public Schools! Singing “Oye” with them was so much fun! The WMHS Treble Choir and Chamber Singers will be participating in MICCA next week, on April 4th. To prepare, we performed our repertoire at the MICCA preview concert. It was very good preparation for the MICCA festival, and we’re all super excited for next week!
