Choral Ensembles
HAPPY MID YEAR! Our school year is (ALMOST) officially half over and Term 3 has (ALMOST) begun! The two snow days delayed the start of Term 3, but we hope you enjoyed the unplanned four day weekend! We are in the midst of auditions for next year’s ensembles, preparing for adjudicated performances, and completing end of term performance assessments. Chamber Singers and Treble Choir have been working hard preparing for their adjudicated performance at the MICCA Festival on March 27 and for their performance at Westminster Choir College on March 3. Term 2 grades will be posted in PowerSchool on February 12. Students and parents should contact me if they have any questions about grades.
FESTIVAL NEWS: WMHS students had a wonderful experience at this year’s Senior District Festival. Brianne Biastoff conducted the chorus in performance at Arlington High School. Students had the opportunity to learn challenging music and sing with new friends. Students who received All-State recommendations auditioned at Grafton HS on January 24. This year, we had a record number of All-State acceptances for the WHS Choral Department! Congratulations to Hailey Allocco, James Brogna, Naya Chankhour, Shaiel Coral, Sarah Eller, Charlie LaMonica, and Lucy Spry, who will sing in the All-State Chorus at the Hanover Theater in Worcester on Saturday, March 21!

A Cappella Groups
Despite the snow, it was a busy week for our a cappella groups! On Thursday, Mic Drop & Voices of Steel, along with the GMS Chamber Chorus, performed at our Winter A Cappella Night. Yesterday, we hosted the Varsity Vocals Northeast Quarterfinal #3 at Galvin Middle School. Thank you to all the volunteers from Mic Drop, Tri-M, and the Wakefield Music Boosters who helped make the event run smoothly. Despite the fierce competition, Voices of Steel placed second and will advance to the Semifinals at the University of Hartford on March 15. Student choreographer Serena Loh earned a well-deserved Outstanding Choreography Award!! Congratulations to Voices of Steel for all their hard work on this year’s set!

Student Perspective Please enjoy this note from one of our students, senior Naya Chankhour!!
This past month has been huge for the music department!! On January 24th, all students who received All-State recommendations attended auditions, and we’re excited to share that every student who auditioned was accepted. Yesterday at ICHSA Quarterfinals, Voices of Steel placed 2nd and will be advancing to Semifinals in Hartford, Connecticut this March. Our amazing student choreographer, Serena Loh, was also recognized with the Outstanding Choreography Award for her hard work and creativity. In choir, we’ve begun working on our MICCA evaluation pieces, and we’re excited for what’s ahead!
