Choral Ensembles
THINK SPRING! All our choral groups are hard at work preparing music for our Spring Choral Night on May 21st! This year our Choral Night will include all the singers from 8th-12th grade singing Susan Brumfield’s arrangement of “No Time” and the Maren Morris hit “The Bones.” Some of the music for the spring concert was chosen by students through our “Song Choice Project” in January & February. Chorale chose Olivia Rodrigo’s “Can’t Catch Me Now,” from The Hunger Games, Chamber Singers chose Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” and Treble Choir chose the Diana Ross classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
MICCA FESTIVAL: For the first time since 2019, the honors groups at WMHS will be performing at the adjudicated Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Festival in April. On Friday, April 4, at North Andover High School, Chamber Singers will perform at 6:50 PM and Treble Choir will perform at 8:10 PM. Both groups are working hard on challenging festival literature. Along with the Wind Ensemble, they will be performing a MICCA Preview Concert on Thursday, March 20, at 7 PM, at the GMS Auditorium. This concert is free and open to the public!
MUSAE WORKSHOP: Today we had the all female vocal band Musae come to WMHS to do a workshop with all of our singers in both a cappella and choral ensembles. They sang for us, we learned more about beatboxing and performing in general, and Mic Drop sang Royals for them! We had a great time and we hope they come back again next year!
FESTIVAL NEWS: WMHS had a great day at Northeast District Junior Festival Auditions at the beginning of February. We had a 100% acceptance rate! Aiden Berinato and Sarah Eller will sing in the Mixed Chorus and Sadie Spry and Lia McCarthy will sing in the Treble Chorus. The festival takes place at Galvin Middle School on March 12, 14, and 15!
A Cappella Groups
Voices of Steel was honored to place 2nd in their ICHSA Quarterfinal competition on February 1, which means they will advance to the Semifinals on March 16 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester! Naya Chankhour was given the Outstanding Solo award for her performance of Snow Angel. VOS will perform at one of their favorite performances of the year, at the 4th Grade Chorus Concert on Wednesday, March 19.
We’re excited to announce that our Spring A Cappella Night will feature the headliner Backtrack, with WMHS groups, Voices of Steel and Mic Drop, with special guests the GMS Chamber Chorus! Friday, April 11, 2025, 7:00 PM!! Tickets available now!

Hi, I’m Naya Chankhour, a junior at WMHS! I’m the Social Coordinator of Voices of Steel, Secretary of WMHS Theater Arts, and Librarian for Treble Choir.
This month has been very exciting for the Music Department! We kicked things off with A Cappella Night on January 30th (yes, I’m counting it as this month), where both WMHS a cappella groups (vos & mic drop) and the middle school a cappella group chamber chorus performed—it was such a fun night! Then, on February 1st, VOS competed at ICHSA, placed 2nd 🤩, and is now headed to SEMIFINALS at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on March 16th (come watch!!). To top it off, I won the Outstanding Soloist Award, which I’m very very very excited about!!
In class, we’ve started on our Spring Concert repertoire and prepping for the MICCA festival on April 4th. It’s been an exciting month, and we can’t wait for what’s next😁🥳!
