WMHS Choral Update - December 2024

Choral Ensembles

WINTER CONCERT SUCCESS: Congratulations to all of the ensembles who performed at the Winter Concert last week! We made beautiful music and had a wonderful time on stage sharing our hard work with our audience. Thank you to all the families of singers for attending the concert! We hope you enjoyed all the performances.

DISTRICT FESTIVAL: The Senior District Festival is coming up in January! Rehearsals are January 8 and 10 from 4:00-8:30, and the concert will be held on January 11 at 12:00 PM at Lexington High School. Michele Adams of the Handel & Haydn Society will conduct the Senior District Festival Chorus.

A Cappella Groups

HOLIDAY GIGS: We hope you were able to catch Voices of Steel performing around the community this month! In all, they performed at 17 community events in and around Wakefield! It was a very busy season, but they love spreading holiday cheer through song!

Voices of Steel is gearing up for our busy performance season. They are thrilled to be headed to Memphis, TN on January 16 to perform at the OneVoice A Cappella Invitational. They were one of only eight groups selected to compete at the NE Voices Festival in Plymouth on January 24. You can preview their competition set in Wakefield at our Winter A Cappella Night on January 30, where they’ll be joined by Mic Drop and the GMS Chamber Chorus. Their competition season culminates at the ICHSA Quarterfinal on February 1. Tickets are on sale now!

Student Perspective Please enjoy this note from one of our students, senior Siobhan Lombardi!!

December has been an extremely busy and exciting month for the entire Choral department. The entire music department got to participate in the yearly Jolly Jingle Express, which is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Wakefield Music Boosters and helps spread holiday cheer for the children of Wakefield. We also had our Winter Concert on December 11, which was extremely successful and it was great to see the progress that every group has made so far this year. Voices of Steel has had a particularly great month, with the winter tours to the elementary schools, weekends gigs at Sweetbay, the Hartshorne House, and so much more! While December is always a fun month, Voices of Steel has been already preparing for January, where we will have the chance to perform in Memphis Tennessee and the OneVoice Festival. We also have ICHSA Quarterfinals and NE Voices next month, so the work is far from over, in fact, we’re just getting started.
