Choral Department Update - December 2019

Choral Ensembles

WINTER CONCERT SUCCESS: Congratulations to all of the ensembles who performed at the Winter Concert last week! We made beautiful music and had a wonderful time on stage sharing our hard work with our audience. We especially enjoyed combining almost 200 musicians for a rousing rendition of Sleigh Ride to end the night!

DISTRICT FESTIVAL: The Senior District Festival is coming up in January! Rehearsals are January 8 and 10, from 3:30-8:30, and the concert will be held on January 11 at 12:00PM at the Galvin Middle School. Dr. Ian Loeppky from the University of North Alabama will conduct the Senior District Festival Chorus.

A Cappella Groups

HOLIDAY GIGS: We hope you were able to catch She Major and Voices of Steel perform around the community this month! We had a great time singing at the WCNA Tree Lighting, the FPCC Pie Social, the Dolbeare Breakfast with Santa, the Wakefield Choral Society Holiday Pops Concert, and of course, the Holiday Stroll! We have one more gig, TONIGHT, at the Albion Cultural Exchange at 6pm! Hope to see you there!

The A Cappella Groups are gearing up for our busy performance season, starting with our A Cappella Night on Friday, January 18th, with special guest, Sound Off A Cappella!

Student Perspective

Please enjoy this note from one of our students, junior Bianca Zani!!

Hi! My name is Bianca. I am a junior and this is my third year involved with the Wakefield High School Music Department. I am in Chamber Singers and She Major! This year I was given the responsibility of being Social Coordinator of She Major. Over the course of the past three years I have learned so many musical tips and tricks. This month has been a roller coaster for the Department with all of the wonderful events we have going on. Both A Cappella groups had Christmas gigs where we performed around the town and spread holiday cheer. The Wakefield High School Marching Band and A Cappella also performed at the Holiday Stroll earlier in the month. One of our biggest events this month was the Jolly Jingle Express which almost all of the music students were involved in. With the Winter Concert the same week, all of us had to learn to balance our crazy schedules and use #growthmindset to work together and put out a wonderful performance! I am so excited to see what the rest of this year has to bring! Happy Holidays!!

Stay connected!
