Choral Ensembles

CONCERT SEASON APPROACHES: Our December concert will take place at the Galvin Middle School Auditorium on Thursday, December 12th at 7pm. All curricular groups will perform: Chorale, Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, and String Ensemble. Chorale, Treble Choir, and Chamber Singers Dress Rehearsal will be on Wednesday, 12/11, from 4:45-7:00pm. This document is posted on Google Classroom, and it has all concert information. A reminder that the dress rehearsal and concert are mandatory events.

UNIFORMS: Students should now have their uniforms at home! Students should try on their uniforms and let me know if there are issues. Students in tuxes need to provide a white, long-sleeved wing-tipped tuxedo shirt. Students in dresses should make sure the hem is ankle length. Do not cut the fabric when hemming. All students should have black shoes and black socks/nylons. Students should refrain from wearing large jewelry and strong scents at the concert.

A Cappella Groups

HOLIDAY GIGS: December is a busy month for the Wakefield A Cappella program! Students will be performing frequently in and around the community. Check out our websites or follow the groups on social media to catch their performances!

Exciting Notes

  • Both She Major and Voices of Steel were accepted into the Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella competition. The quarterfinal round takes place at Galvin Middle School on Feb 8.

  • DISTRICT AUDITION RESULTS: WHS students had a very successful day at District Auditions this year! Out of the 42 vocal students who auditioned, sixteen students earned scores in the top 50%, and were accepted into the Northeast District Chorus. Six students earned scores in the top 25%, and were accepted into the NED Chorus AND received a recommendation to audition for the All-State Chorus on January 25.The District Festival will be held on January 8, 10, and 11 at Galvin Middle School.

Student Perspective

Please enjoy this note from one of our students, junior Sean DeCourcy!!

November marks a big preparation month for the choral department. With December gigs for a cappella and the winter concert coming up for choral groups, lots of music is being learned, fine-tuned, and polished. Personally, my involvement in Voices of Steel means plenty of Christmas carols and a little bit of competition music for later in the year. Our music is nearing memorization and choreo rehearsals for our competition pieces are starting. All this hard work and preparation pays off with a great season of Christmas gigs and performances. I can not wait for our first gig next Friday to kick off the holiday season!

Stay connected!
