Choral Ensembles

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS: The WHS Choral Department welcomed many new members this year. Our ensembles are off to a great start, and they are all busy learning music for our upcoming performances. Thank you to the many parents who came to Back to School Night on September 28!

NEW THIS YEAR: We have been discussing and putting in place our new CHOR-AL values: Collaborate, Harness, Open, Ready, Aid, Listen. Students were given the new WHS Choral Handbook as a resource for our Choral Ensembles. This document includes the calendar for the year, so please be sure to put important performance dates on your calendar!

PERFORMANCES: The Chamber Singers have already performed twice this year! We performed the National Anthem at Fenway on September 13, and the video has received over 18,000 views! Joined by Chamber Singers alumni, we were also honored to perform at the NESBA Marching Band show on October 7th. The Chamber Singers will join with the Wind Ensemble and the Wakefield Choral Society to honor our veterans at the Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11th at 11am, at the GMS Auditorium.

UNIFORMS: Each student will be receiving a school issued uniform. As a reminder, if uniforms need to be hemmed, please do not cut the fabric. Students may not take their uniforms home until they have turned in their signed Uniform Utilization Forms. Students should try on their uniforms and let me know if anything needs to be changed. Men are also required to purchase a white, long-sleeved wing-tipped tuxedo shirt. These are available at several local stores and online. In addition, all students should have black shoes and black socks/nylons.

DISTRICT AUDITIONS: Students will be auditioning for the Senior District Festival on November 18th. Our exact audition time is still TBA, but the times will be assigned shortly. More details to come!! The Festival will be held at the Galvin Middle School this year, and the dates are January 10, 12, and 13.

A Cappella Groups

Our a cappella groups are both working on learning new music, including competition and holiday gig music! Be sure to catch them at their community performances in December! Both groups are in the process of applying for several competitions, including the International Championship of High School A Cappella (2/10/18) and NE Voices (1/26/18). | She Major IG | @shemajorwhs | She Major FB | Voices of Steel IG | @voicesofsteel | Voices of Steel FB |

This Is Why I Teach Music

Not because I expect you to major in music,

not because I expect you to play or sing all your life,

not so you can relax,

not so you can have fun.

But

So you will be human.

So you will recognize beauty.

So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world.

So you will have something to cling to.

So you will have more love,

more compassion,

more gentleness,

more good...

In short, more life.

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living

unless you know how to live?
