Choral Ensembles
END OF TERM 1: It’s been a great fall of music making! The term ends on Friday, November 8. Students should be checking Google Classroom and PowerSchool to make sure all assignments are up to date. Term 1 grades will be published in PowerSchool on Wednesday, November 20.
CONCERT DATE CHANGE: The WHS Winter Concert date has changed. The new date is WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11. Please update your calendars!! (The dress rehearsal will still take place on Monday, December 9, exact time TBD).
CONCERT ATTIRE: Now is a great time to start thinking about concert attire! For Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Treble Choir, concert attire is a black dress shirt, black dress pants OR ankle length skirt, black dress shoes, black socks. The following are NOT allowed on stage: t-shirts, polo shirts, black jeans, sneakers, white socks, and bare legs. All groups should have their concert attire ready for the Winter Concert on December 11.
A Cappella Groups
Voices of Steel and Mic Drop are gearing up for the third annual A Cappella Fall Fest, this Saturday, November 2, 7 PM, at the GMS Auditorium. Tickets are $10 at the door, and groups from North Reading, Belmont, Marblehead, Saugus, Salem, Wilmington, and Marlborough will be joining us! It’s going to be a great night of music! Looking forward to the competition season, Voices of Steel recorded and submitted their application video for the Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella. Results will be posted in mid-November. Currently, they are working on competition set music and music for December gigs. Students sing holiday and pop songs around the community! Follow them on social media to see where their next performance will be!
Exciting Notes
Along with alumni singers dating back to the Class of 2010, both Chamber Singers and Treble Choir were thrilled to support the Warrior Marching Band by performing the National Anthem at the NESBA Marching Band Show on October 26.
Our annual Tri-M Induction took place on October 17. We inducted twenty-five new members including eleven students from the Choral Department. These students sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the ceremony.
We also hosted our first ever Open Mic Night on October 10, which was a huge success! Students got an opportunity to showcase music that they chose in a supportive and chill atmosphere. Stay tuned for another one later this spring!
Student Perspective Please enjoy this note from one of our students!!
Hello, my name is Lizzie Police, a senior at Wakefield Memorial High School, and I’ve been in the music department my entire high school career! This is my third year in Voices of Steel, my first year in Tri-M, and I am the co-president of the Theater Department along with being the Production Manager of Treble Choir. So far, our year has been extremely successful. In Voices of Steel, we have already done so much work on our comp set for later in the year. We have also learned a handful of other songs to perform at gigs, and we’ve been learning our holiday music consistently. In Treble Choir, we have been working super hard on our audition song for our Senior Districts. We have also started learning some songs for our Winter Concert in December. To kick off the year and make everyone in class welcome, our Chamber Singers and Treble Choir presidents have made posters with every student's birthday, so that on their special day we can celebrate them in class! This makes everyone feel welcome and fosters a great sense of community. On October 10th, Voices of Steel performed at Open Mic Night, where we got to share music with the community and listen to a bunch of other amazing performances. I think that we have come a super long way already, and I am so excited for the rest of the year!
