WMHS Choral Update - September 2024

WELCOME: Welcome to our new students and families! The Wakefield High School Music Department is a special community, and we’re glad you chose to join us! Welcome back to our returning students and families! It was great to see family members in person at Back to School Night a few weeks ago!

Choral Ensembles

OFF TO A GREAT START! Each ensemble has been discussing and implementing our CHOR-AL values: Communicate, Honor, Open, Rehearse, Adjust, Listen. Students were given the WHS Choral Handbook as a resource for our Choral Ensembles. This document includes the calendar for the year, so please be sure to put important performance dates on your calendar! Ensembles are working on developing tone, learning about the vocal mechanism, listening to each other, singing accurate solfege patterns, and focusing on the Star Spangled Banner and this year’s senior district audition piece, I Know a Young Maiden.

A Cappella Groups

Both groups are looking forward to a great year! Voices of Steel has already put in almost 30 hours of rehearsal, including meeting during the summer for the first ever summer boot camp! They were thrilled to perform for the first time (ever) in September at a community gig this past weekend. Mic Drop is also off to a great start, with almost thirty students showing up for the first two rehearsals.

Make sure to follow our social media for gig announcements! Up first - an Open Mic fundraiser on October 10 for the VOS trip to the OneVoice A Cappella Invitational in Memphis in January. Our next big performance will be the 3rd A Cappella Fall Fest on November 2, along with groups from North Reading, Belmont, and Marblehead.

Stay connected!
