WMHS Choral Update - May 2024

Choral Ensembles

WRAPPING UP: Last week, Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, and Chorale performed their last concert of the year: the first ever 7-12 Combined Choral Night. Now, they are working on Final Exams and End of the Year Assessments. For their Final Exams, students in Chamber Singers and Treble Choir are learning pieces on their own in small groups. Students in Chorale are working on presentations to share with the class regarding various topics related to choral singing. Our last day of classes is June 12th, and the last day of exams (and last day of school for the year) is June 18th.

Chamber Singers and Treble Choir will have their last performance of the year, tomorrow, at this year’s WMHS Graduation Ceremony.

A Cappella Groups

Voices of Steel has two final gigs in June! They will be singing at the Pride Flag Raising on June 3rd, and at Brian Agosta’s Comedy Night at the Albion Cultural Exchange on June 13th. The group is looking forward to next year, and already starting to plan repertoire and travel for 2024-2025!

 Student Perspective

Please enjoy this note from one of our students, junior Miranda Menjivar!!

Hello! My name is Miranda Menjivar, I am a Junior and I have been a choral leader, member of Chamber Singers and in an a cappella group for the past 3 years. In May, we got to perform the pieces we have been preparing for our spring concert. During the concert, we had the opportunity to combine with the middle school 7th and 8th grade chorus and sing with them to inspire them to continue being a part of the Wakefield Choral Department. Also in May, we had an amazing workshop with Dr. Barros from Colby College. We are now working on our music for our final assessment.
