WMHS Choral Update - January 2025

Ana Morel

Choral Ensembles

HAPPY MID YEAR! Our school year is officially half over and Term 3 has begun! This past month, Chamber Singers and Treble Choir have been working hard preparing for their adjudicated performance at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Festival on April 4. Term 2 grades will be posted in PowerSchool on February 6. Students and parents should contact me if they have any questions about grades.

FESTIVAL NEWS: WMHS students had a wonderful experience at this year’s Senior District Festival. Michele Adams conducted the chorus in performance at Lexington High School. Students had the opportunity to learn challenging music and sing with new friends. Students who received All-State recommendations auditioned at Shrewsbury HS on January 25. Congratulations to Hailey Allocco, Samantha Bordonaro, and Jhalak Patel, who will sing in the All-State Chorus at Symphony Hall on Saturday, March 29!

A Cappella Groups

Last weekend, Voices of Steel was honored to perform as one of the eight competition groups at this year’s NE Voices Competition. The next day, students from VOS and Mic Drop got to learn from the best as they attended workshops in topics such as movement, arranging, riffing, and more. Last night, a cappella students performed in their  Winter A Cappella Night. We hope you enjoyed all the groups’ performances! Tomorrow (Saturday, February 1), Voices of Steel will compete in the International Championship of High School A Cappella, at the Galvin Middle School!!  VOS Trip to Memphis

Two weeks ago, Voices of Steel was super excited to travel to Memphis, TN to perform at the Briarcrest OneVoice Invitational. They had an amazing performance, met new friends, and learned lots of new ideas about a cappella at the masterclasses, exchanges, and interest sessions. When they were not performing, they were able to learn about Memphis as a musical and cultural center, by visiting the National Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studios, and Graceland. Thanks to the Wkaefield Music Boosters for supporting our travel, and to United for getting us home on time (with our bags) despite temperatures low enough to freeze the jet fuel in Memphis!

 Student Perspective

Please enjoy this note from one of our students, senior Brendan Leane!!

Hello, my name is Brendan Leane and I am a senior in Chamber Singers and in Voices of Steel. This month has been very busy for all of us! In VOS, we went to Tennessee to perform at OneVoice and we were lucky enough to get into NE VOICES. On February 1st, we have ICHSA in Wakefield and we’re all super excited for that. At the same time, some of us went to Senior Districts and some have even been preparing for All States. In Chamber Singers, we have been practicing for MICCA and we are so excited to see what the new year brings!!
