WHS Choral Update - May 2023

Choral Groups

WRAPPING UP: Last week, Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, and Chorale performed their last concert of the year. Now, they are working on Final Exams and End of the Year Assessments. For their Final Exams, students in Chamber Singers and Treble Choir are learning pieces from the Renaissance in small groups. Students in Chorale are working on presentations to share with the class regarding various topics related to choral singing. Our last day of classes is June 14th, and the last day of exams (and last day of school for the year) is June 21st.

Chamber Singers and Treble Choir will have their last performance of the year at this year’s WMHS Graduation Ceremony. The performance will feature the senior singers from the Class of 2023.

A Cappella Groups

AUDITIONS: Auditions for next year’s Voices of Steel start next week. Results will be emailed directly to students on the evening of June 11th. Anyone who wants to can join Mic Drop; students can let Mrs. Morel know by email or sign up in the fall.

Student Perspective Please enjoy this note from one of our students, junior Charlotte O’Neil.

Hello! My name is Charlotte O’Neil and I am a junior at WMHS. I’m the Soprano II section leader in Treble Choir and I’m a member of the Tri-M Honors Music Society. I consider myself to be very involved in the Wakefield Music Department. This Department works very hard to organize events and spread the love of music around the community, especially this past month. The Tri-M Honors Music Society has been very active during the month of May, helping to organize the Meghan Burnett concert that took place on May 19th. Very talented individuals and groups performed in this memorial concert, helping to raise over $2,000 for the Meghan Burnett Foundation. Wakefield’s choral groups recently performed at the Spring Concert held on May 23rd. The concert featured many talented vocalist groups: Voices of Steel, Mic Drop, members of the theater production Annie, Chamber Singers, Chorale, Treble Choir, and the 8th grade choral ensemble. My favorite piece that we performed in Treble Choir was Landslide, written by Stevie Nicks and sung with a guitar accompaniment. Another amazing piece called Stand Together combined the high school choral ensembles with the 8th grade choir, giving the 8th graders a sneak-peak into what high school choir looks like.
