WHS Choral Update - February 2022

February 18, 2022

This is my first update since June of 2020. For many months, the Choral Department has been plugging along, singing when we were allowed to, on zoom, or in person with masks, with distancing, with windows open, in the theater, on the track, outside in the sun or in the cold, wherever and whenever we could. We are feeling very hopeful that live singing is returning, and we are very excited to share news of past and upcoming performances.

Choral Ensembles

WE ARE BACK! After more than two years without performing, Chamber Singers and Treble Choir returned to the stage in January to perform their Winter Concert. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to welcome family and friends to see the concert, but we were thankful that WCAT was able to stream the concert live, and it was wonderful to be back on the risers under the lights. We are looking forward to our Choral Night on May 24, 2022. This concert will include Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, Voices of Steel, Mic Drop, as well as some special guests!

A Cappella Groups

In the past few weeks, Voices of Steel had a whirlwind of performances, live and in person! VOS was thrilled to be chosen to perform on February 5th at the NE Voices festival, as one of the eight showcase groups. Both Mic Drop and VOS spent time during that day attending informative workshops on different aspects of a cappella, including solo singing,

branding, and group dynamics. Our A Cappella Night Concert was postponed twice due to weather, but we finally were able to hold the concert on Friday, February 11th. We were thrilled to host the GMS Chamber Chorus and NOTEorious. We also were so excited to debut our newest a cappella group, Mic Drop. Congratulations to them on a successful debut! Lastly, Voices of Steel competed in the ICHSA Quarterfinal, held at GMS on February 12. They had an amazing performance, and placed 4th, which is a huge accomplishment in our highly competitive region. VOS were able to enter the wildcard round to put in for a chance to sing

at the Semifinal round in Worcester on March 12. We were also so excited to have Samantha Prosperi, WHS Class of 2019, return to the stage with her Northeastern University group, Distilled Harmony.
