Choral Ensembles
HAPPY MID YEAR! Our school year is officially half over! We’ve made it through Winter concert season, mid-year recording exams, auditions for next year’s ensembles, and have now begun Term 3. Grades will be posted in iPass on February 4. Students and parents should contact me if they have any questions about grades.
DISTRICT FESTIVAL, JR. DISTRICT & ALL-STATE AUDITIONS: WHS students had a wonderful experience at this year’s Senior District Festival. Dr. Ian Loepkky of the University of North Alabama conducted the chorus. Students had the opportunity to learn challenging music and sing with new friends. Students who received All-State recommendations auditioned at Shrewsbury High School on January 25th. Congratulations to CJ Hagen, Casey MacGibbon, Elisabeth Nordeen, Tommy Mulcahy, and Bianca Zani, who will sing in the All-State Chorus at Symphony Hall on Saturday, March 7th.
A Cappella Groups
Thank you to those of you who attended our 9th Annual A Cappella Night! We hosted Sound Off, with performances by the Galvin Middle School Chamber Chorus, North Reading’s NOTEorious, In Big Treble, She Major, and Voices of Steel. A huge thank you to the Wakefield Music Boosters for all their help with this event!
Next Saturday, February 8, She Major & Voices of Steel will compete in the International Championship of High School A Cappella, at the Galvin Middle School!

Student Perspective Please enjoy this note from one of our students, senior Braelyn McLaughlin!!
Hi! My name is Braelyn McLaughlin. I am a senior and this is my fourth year being a part of the WMHS Choral Department as well as the Music Department in general. I am the soprano section leader in Chamber Singers and the president of our school’s Tri-M chapter. I also sing alto in Voices of Steel and play the violin in the orchestra. We’re now quickly approaching the end of January, which was an extremely busy month! I love being a part of all of these groups more than anything, but between the Senior District Festival, mid-years week, Chicago rehearsals, and an overall packed schedule, it was certainly a challenge to keep up with all of the responsibilities I have as a member of these groups. Now that the month is coming to a close, everything is starting to settle again, leaving more time for practice! Over the last month, a cappella groups are preparing for ICHSA and the choral groups are working on their new music that will be performed in a few months at the Spring Concert! Choral students also had to submit a recording for their mid-year assignments to show their growth and progress from the beginning of the year #growthmindset. Many students got to participate in the Senior District Festival at the GMS where they were able to work with a great conductor and other students from many different schools! We are very grateful for the members of Tri-M as they volunteered to help out at the festival and also at many other middle school concerts throughout the month. Members of Chamber Singers are especially excited as the Ithaca College Festival trip in March was recently approved! Lastly, I would just like to congratulate the students who also got into All States! This month has definitely been hectic, but hopefully, we can all use our #growthmindset perspective to keep up with all of our crazy schedules!!
