Choral Department Update - February 2020

February 28, 2020

Choral Ensembles

FESTIVAL SEASON! Chamber Singers and Treble Choir are in the midst of preparing for their spring festival performances. Treble Choir will perform at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association adjudication in Westborough on April 3, and Chamber Singers will perform at the Ithaca College Choral Composition Competition Festival in Ithaca, NY on March 28. Both festivals will provide the students the opportunity to perform in new spaces and exposure to lots of wonderful high quality choral repertoire performed by excellent choirs. Both groups will perform at the Festival Preview Concert on Tuesday, March 24.

Chorale is also hard at work preparing music for our spring Choral Night and their adjudication at the first ever WMHS Music Festival in May.

A Cappella Groups

Thank you to all who attended and assisted with hosting the ICHSA Quarterfinal on February 8th. Although Voices of Steel and She Major did not place in the top two, both groups had incredible performances, and I am so proud of the work they put in. Congratulations to our friends in North Reading’s NOTEorious and Chelmsford's The Thursdays for continuing onto the semifinal at Mechanics Hall in Worcester!

Both groups will perform in March at some of their favorite performances of the year! On March 10, She Major will sing at the International Women’s Day Celebration at the Savings Bank Theater, sponsored by the Wakefield Human Right’s Foundation. On March 18, Voices of Steel will perform with and for the 4th Grade singers at the All Town 4th Grade Choir Concert at the GMS Auditorium. Mark your calendars!

Student Perspective Please enjoy this note from one of our students, senior Ellianna Ouellette!!

Hi! I’m Ellianna, I’m a senior, and I’m in Treble Choir, Chamber Singers, Chorale, and She Major! Right now, each ensemble is working on music for their upcoming events, which range from adjudicated performances to casual gigs. I love being in all of these ensembles because they’re all different from each other and I’m able to learn something new from each group. Throughout high school, the choral department has really helped me grow as both a performer and a person. I’m incredibly grateful for my peers and all of the amazing music teachers at Wakefield High School!
