Choral Department Update - April 2019

Choral Ensembles

Choral Night: Groups are gearing up for our year end concert. Choral Night will be on Wednesday, May 8, at 7pm, at Galvin Middle School, and will feature Chorale, Treble Choir, Chamber Singers, and the Wakefield A Cappella groups.

NAfME All-Eastern Chorus: Congratulations to Gavin Frey and Elisabeth Nordeen on their performance with the All-Eastern Mixed and Treble Choruses! The students spent several days in Pittsburgh rehearsing with Dr. Rollo Dilworth and Dr. Sandra Snow, which culminated in a performance at the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom on Sunday, April 7. It is a huge honor to have had two students represent Wakefield High School at the All-Eastern festival, which includes students from eleven states from Maine to Delaware.

Thank you, Ms. Forbes! We have been lucky to have a such wonderful student teacher. Ms. Forbes’ last day at Wakefield High School is May 8th. Thank you, Ms. Forbes for all your hard work!

UNIFORMS: Students may begin turning in uniforms after the Choral Night concert on May 8. Students will need to have their uniforms dry-cleaned. They should be returned in the blue bag, clearly labelled with their names, with the dry-cleaning receipt attached.

A Cappella Groups

ACIAD: The 3rd Annual A Cappella In a Day (ACIAD) is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at GMS. In addition to our Wakefield students, we will welcome students from Danvers, North Reading, Salem, and Saugus to mix up to form new a cappella groups, and learn a new song from start to finish in a day! Tickets are on sale at www.ticketstage.com or can be purchased at the door on the night of the show!

AUDITIONS: Auditions for next year’s a cappella groups will take place on May 20 & 21. Students should visit www.whschoral.com to sign-up for an audition.

SUMMER WORKSHOP: Sign-ups are now open for the Summer A Cappella Workshop, taught by Ms. Morel and Mr. Reilly. The workshop is open to students who have completed grades 6-8, and it will run during the mornings of August 12-16. Sign up here!

Voices of Steel & She Major performed for elementary students at Visual & Performing Arts Day on April 12.

This Is Why I Teach Music

Not because I expect you to major in music,

not because I expect you to play or sing all your life,

not so you can relax,

not so you can have fun.

But

So you will be human.

So you will recognize beauty.

So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world.

So you will have something to cling to.

So you will have more love,

more compassion,

more gentleness,

more good...

In short, more life.

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living

unless you know how to live?
