Choral Department Update - March 2018

March 19, 2018

Choral News

MICCA: Chamber Singers and Treble Choir will both be performing at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors Association Festival at Westborough High School on Sunday, March 25. This is an adjudicated festival at which ensembles receive ratings, clinics, and the opportunity to see and hear other ensembles. Treble Choir performs at 3:20pm and Chamber Singers perform at 4:40pm. We will also be supporting our friends in the Wind Ensemble as they perform at Hopkinton High School at 12:00pm that day. Admission to all MICCA events is $10/$5. We will be holding a MICCA Preview Concert this Tuesday night, 3/20, at the GMS at 7pm.

Choral Night: Our spring choral concert this year will be at the Galvin Middle School, and will feature Chorale, Treble Choir, Chamber Singers, and the Wakefield A Cappella groups. Mark your calendars! Thursday, May 10th, 7pm

MMEA All-State: Congratulations to Gavin Frey, Elisabeth Nordeen, Ava Spies, Ryan Tarpey, and Catherine Tonias on their performance at Symphony Hall with the 240 member MMEA All-State Chorus. The students spend three days rehearsing with Dr. Charlene Archibeque (retired - San Jose State University), which culminated in the performance on March 3rd.

Wakefield A Cappella

ICHSA: She Major & Voices of Steel competed in the International Championship of High School A Cappella Quarterfinal on February 10. Both groups gave outstanding performances, and special awards were given to Nina DiCarlo for Outstanding Choreography and Skylar Dubé for Outstanding Vocal Percussion. Voices of Steel placed 2nd, advancing to the Semifinal competition in Worcester on Saturday, March 24.

A Cappella Night: The 2nd Annual A Cappella In a Day (ACIAD) is scheduled for Saturday, May 12 at GMS.

Students from various schools will mix up to form new a cappella groups, and learn a new song from start to finish in a day! Tickets will be on sale soon!

WAC groups have been actively performing in the community! Most recently, She Major provided music for the 2nd Annual Wakefield Human Rights Commission International Women’s Day panel discussion. On March 21, Voices of Steel will perform with the Wakefield All-Town 4th Grade Chorus. Later this spring, on May 3, the Albion Cultural Exchange will host In Big Treble, She Major, and Voices of Steel at the First Thursday Downtown Spring A Cappella Show.
