February / March News
Choral Ensembles
MICCA: Chamber Singers and Treble Choir will both be performing at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors Association Festival at Westborough High School on Sunday, April 2. This is an adjudicated festival at which ensembles receive ratings, clinics, and the opportunity to see and hear other ensembles. Treble Choir performs at 3:20pm and Chamber Singers perform at 4:40pm. We will also be supporting our friends in the Wind Ensemble as they perform at Hopkinton High School at 12:30pm on the same day. Admission to all MICCA events is $10/$5 and more information is available at miccamusic.org.
Choral Night: Our spring choral concert this year will be in the Galvin Middle School and will feature Broadway music. Mark your calendars! Wednesday, May 17th, 7pm
MMEA All-State: Congratulations to seniors Samuele Bianchet-David and Emily Cierpial on their performance at Symphony Hall with the MMEA All-State Chorus. On March 11, Andrew Megill from Westminster Choir College conducted a beautiful program.
A Cappella Groups
A Cappella Night: Our 6th Annual A Cappella Night is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, at 7pm at GMS. This year, we’ll be bringing in the professional group Musae, a powerhouse group of women. The concert will feature She Major & Voices of Steel, as well as the Galvin Middle School Chamber Chorus, and several high school groups from the area. Tickets are available now, at www.ticketstage.com/T/WAKEFIELDHS
Disney Recap: She Major & Voices of Steel both performed at Disney World during February vacation. The students performed together at the Waterside Stage at Disney Springs. They also had an opportunity to work with Disney professionals in a workshop in which they sang, danced, and recorded a track for a movie!
ICHSA Recap: She Major & Voices of Steel competed in the International Championship of High School A Cappella Quarterfinal on February 11. Both groups were outstanding, and She Major placed 3rd, advancing to the Semifinal in Worcester on March 11. Special awards were given to Gina DiMascio for Outstanding Soloist and Skylar Dubé for Outstanding Vocal Percussion.
Both a cappella groups have been active performing in their community! In March, She Major provided music for the Wakefield Human Rights Commission International Women’s Day panel discussion and opened for the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets at a fundraiser for North Suburban Family & Children’s Network. Voices of Steel performed with and for the Wakefield All-Town 4th Grade Chorus Concert and as guests at the Inaugural Northeastern District Elementary School Chorus concert.
