Choral Dept Update - November 2016

We have a lot to be thankful for in the Music Department at Wakefield High School. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you for reading as we prepare for the busy concert season!

Choral Uniforms: All uniforms should be taken home as soon as possible. A few students still need to turn in the Uniform Use Form. Please remember that pants & dresses may need to be hemmed, but please do not cut the fabric. Here is the concert attire from the syllabus:

Men: School provided: Tuxedo pants, jacket, bow tie, cummerbund.

Student provided: long-sleeved white wing-tipped tuxedo shirt, black shoes, black socks.

Women: School provided: dress

Student provided: black dress shoes (less than 2 in heel), black hose, black undergarments

Everyone: Hair must be away from your face, no big jewelry, no strong perfumes or scented lotions

December Concert and Dress Rehearsal: Our December concert will take place at the Galvin Middle School Auditorium on Tuesday, December 20th at 7pm. All curricular groups will perform: Chorale, Chamber Singers, Treble Choir (their debut!), Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, and String Ensemble. Chorale, Treble Choir, and Chamber Singers Dress Rehearsal will be on Monday, 12/19, from 5:30-6:30pm. Students have access to a document on Classroom that has all concert information.

District Auditions: Fifteen students were accepted into the Northeastern District chorus, and eight of those students also earned a high enough score to audition for the All-State Festival on January 21st. The District Festival is January 11, 13, and 14, at UMass Lowell. The concert is open to the public, on Saturday, January 14th. Daniel Abraham from American University will conduct the chorus.

She Major & Voices of Steel: December is a busy month for the Wakefield A Cappella program! Students will be performing frequently in and around the community. Check out our websites or follow the groups on social media to catch their performances! Both groups were selected for the ICHSA competition! The competition will take place at GMS on February 11th. We will also apply for the NE Voices competition on January 27th. @shemajorwhs | She Major FB | @voicesofsteel | Voices of Steel FB

This Is Why I Teach Music

Not because I expect you to major in music,

not because I expect you to play or sing all your life,

not so you can relax,

not so you can have fun.

So you will be human.

So you will recognize beauty.

So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world.

So you will have something to cling to.

So you will have more love,

more compassion,

more gentleness,

more good...

In short, more life.

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living

unless you know how to live?
