MEET THE DIRECTOR

Since 2009, Ana Morel has been the Choral Director at Wakefield Memorial High School, in Wakefield, Massachusetts. She conducts Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, Chorale, and a cappella pop groups Voices of Steel and Mic Drop. In addition, she works as Music Director for Wakefield High School Theater Arts, is the Advisor of the WMHS Tri-M Chapter #7433, and teaches music theory and electronic composition courses. She holds a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Ithaca College. Ms. Morel performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood Festival Chorus at Boston's Symphony Hall and at Tanglewood. She has previously served as Secretary on the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) Northeastern District, as Assistant Housing Manager for the MMEA All-State Festival Concert Committee, as Senior Festival Coordinator for Northeastern District, and as Choral Manager and Concert Coordinator for the All-State Festival.

 

Ms. Morel has been active as a conductor, clinician, choral manager, festival coordinator, performer, and adjudicator in Massachusetts, Louisiana, and New York. She has been a guest conductor of festival choruses at elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Previously, she held the position of Conductor of the Wakefield Choral Society, Choral Director at the Norwood Public Schools, and she has also worked on staff of the Boston Children’s Chorus and the Ithaca Children’s Choir. She is an active a cappella arranger, with many titles on sale at ArrangeMe & SheetMusicPlus.

 

At Ithaca College, she was the graduate assistant for the Ithaca College Choral Program, under the direction of Dr. Janet Galván and Mr. Lawrence Doebler, and she worked as a mentor teacher for the teacher education program. She holds Level III Kodály Certification through New England Conservatory and has completed two levels of the Choral Music Experience at Ithaca College. She is currently a member of the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, and the A Cappella Education Association.

Originally from the Finger Lakes area of Central New York, Ms. Morel has lived in the Boston area since 2003. She loves to run, cook, and hang out with her husband Michael Morel (Band Director at the Galvin Middle School), their three active kids, and their poodle-mix pup.
